BIG Dilemma….
Where does the billfold go? I just made the switch from costanza sized wallet to billfold because I realized that most of what was in my wallet I would not need in Japan. As cool as having my blockbuster and GNC card on me at all times, it isn’t.
I’m completely aware that to 98 percent of the population of the world this may not seem like any sort of problem to worry about, much less blog about, but this is pretty big for me. Yes it is in the minutia of my life when compared to other things, but this is still a change that has never happened before and that I am unaccustomed to.
One question that I have is where you carry the billfold. Does it stay in the back pocket or does it move to the front? I feel like it is supossed to be in the front but that messes up the feng shui of my pant pocket predicament. My situation is always wallet back right, phone front right, and keys/change front left. Adding the billfold to either front pocket makes the front pocket too bulky. I also can’t put my keys in the same pocket as my phone at the risk of scratching it.
I guess if this is my big current dilemma then life is pretty good.
I had the same (reverse) problem when I switched. I felt the billfold in the front right pocket with my keys was appropriate, but it definitely causes a pocket bulge. However, I would rather keep the billfold there and move the keys somewhere else, as the keys cause a much more severe pocket bulge. Clearly, you cannot add the keys to the phone pocket, as you so wisely pointed out.
Luckily, in Japan, I hear you don’t need keys, as vacuum tube travel is the norm there, and ports of entry into the tube system come directly from your vertical, oxygen-rich sleep chamber. Thus – phone in the front right (left for me) and billfold in the front left (right for me) will leave you sleek and stylish in all your Japanese travels.
well where else would you put the keys?…obviously pretending the tube system was non existent
If, for the sake of this conversation, we were to pretend the tube system wasn’t real, the key issue returns with a vengeance (Much like Officer John McClane). I currently do keys and money clip in the front right pocket with the phone in the front left. The right pocket bulge is irritating, but it is much better than sitting on the wallet you have pictured above. One uber-hip option would be to get a quality belt-clip phone holder so that everyone can see that you truly are a tech-savvy twenty-something that is so important and popular that you need constant and immediate access to your phone. This way you can move your money to your front right and keep your keys in your front left (or vice versa. I’m assuming that your money would be more important than your keys and so you would want it in your dominant pocket). You could also get a snazzy jacket (track or jean) and keep your phone in your jacket pocket. This is a great option – some might say necessary option – in Japan, where skinny jeans are all the rage. There’s no way you’re going to fit your phone, keys, and money in the pockets of skinny jeans.
Naturally these suggestions are moot, as the tube system is fully functional and extremely convenient.
